ive left my rear seat and boot bungs off for years, it lets a lot more moisture build up drain away compared to letting anything in for me my 4G would be underwater by now...

yep, as mec says as long as it didnt snap whilst in vtec then you should be fine. i had my belt chewed when the balance shaft bung popped out and jammed between the belt and block - plopped a new belt on (and new bung) and away i went
