good luck with the new car Greg cant recommend having two ludes from a financial position but it is great fun and there is a definate contrast between them.

1991 JDM BB1 DSP

Post by vanzep » Sun Jan 24, 2016 4:26 pm

Got round to fitting the DSP units today :D
It does complete the look of the interior and im looking forward to some soothing tunes as i waft along

I have given it a quick test using the radio and it does work :)
although ive still to fit speakers to the doors and parcel shelf and the ariel goes to half mast as it should but wont fully extend and has the shotgun sound track when being retracted-a drop of 3in1 might fix it.

Some pics of the DSP and the car since its has had some work done since the last photos were taken. Note the non rusty sunroof which now has the liner back in place and the ukdm fog light to fill he hole in the bumper.

Getting the ps fluid changed tomorrow and closer inspection of intermediate shaft bearing just to be sure ;)
Also need to dry out drivers side headlight as it has some moisture in from when the rubber seal on the back was incorrectly fitted upside down by previous owner. Was hoping this would dry out on its own :x

Might get some new number plates front and back as the rear one has deteriorated a bit and i dont like how the front one overhangs the plate holder..not sure about legality of changing the sizes ..will have to read up :?

A 12" x 6" plate will fit in the front holder, it's only marginally smaller than a Japanese licence plate from the looks of it. If you zoom in on the below pic you'll see what I mean, the lude has a 13" x 6.5" (or maybe 6 :? ) jap size plate, the Accord has a 12" x 6" U.S. Sized plate which fits better imo - the lude plate overhangs everywhere. AFAIK the smaller plate size isn't illegal, as it is the best fit in the factory plate holder.

yep i used to have a 12x6 front plate on the BB4
dont think they have any approval markings but it is the correct sized plate for the holder and the car is a JDM import so should be ok on that
the rear plate is also wrongly sized tho -its just a bit big - i will measure up the one one the BB4 which has been on there since import with no issues. the rear plate might have to be made up by someone who deals with bike plates as its more that shape and size.

i like the look of your lude in the pic - might have to fit the jdm yellow fogs i have here - need to find a set of brackets, switch and loom first :)
j reg as well - i found a stamp on the inside of the sunroof liner that said 13th December 1991-so mines a xmas lude ;)

8-)
Well done and glad it all works.

But... :guns: someone else in the UK now has one
;)

Now... Will you sell me your spare DSP unit so I can swap it into Lisa's? :D (will hopefully save me the time needed to perform heart surgery to fix the caps on hers)

Lovely! It's great to get that hifi setup back to original, look forward to your report as to how it sounds!

The car looks great, apart from, in my opinion, the front plate. It's huge! I really think a one line plate looks better, ideally mounted below the bumper.

I think ive already dropped you a pm saying as much - just need to get speakers in and it all tested :)

my thoughts exactly - ive measured up the front one to fit the plate holder and its 12x6 and you can get road legal plates for that size as long as the car is an import. the rear plate also needs replaced - ive measured up the one on the BB4 and it is 15x6.5"- may be a bit more difficult to find that one.

The DSP looks good installed. I am interested to hear what it will sound like once you get some speakers installed.

Get a plate custom made? My local bloke did mine to the size I wanted. 20 quid or something.

If you can't get one there let me know I can get him to do one for you.
