Ebay turbo kits

Post by FrontBackSide2Side » Sun Jan 06, 2013 5:11 pm

Has anyone got any experience of the ebay turbo kits such as this one:

http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav= ... 1081698134

are they a good way of getting started? i know the turbo itself probably isn't up to much but Im thinking if i can get a basic set up first and change it at a later date it might make it a bit more doable money wise?

Also i realise i will need a built motor before running any kind of high boost but Im looking for a way of doing things gradually. Ideally id want to get the turbo setup working on the engine in my car whilst building another motor in the shed.

I would've thought making it more doable money-wise would be to collect all the proper bits you need first, then build it. Why buy something like this when you're only going to replace it in the near future?

basically because id struggle to save the money required all in one go. Im terrible like that. i know id end up with half the parts then give up (I've done it before with an n/a build) at least if i got myself a full working set up it would give me the enthusiasm i need (Im hoping ha!)

cool :) do you think these kits are a good way of getting all the rest of the bits and pieces like the manifold and intercooler etc? just seems like a good price even if you dont use some of the bits?

Iirc, boost creep can be an engine killer from cheap waste gates...

Could be talking crap tho

its all going to be bottom of the line stuff price wise. ebay turbos are hit and miss. manifold will be junk and will require bracing to have any chance of lasting more than a week and i wouldnt trust the wastegate as far as i could throw it.
all the other bits will probably do the job though. no injectors or forn of tuning it in that kit either so you need toallow for that.

i mean surely you cant go wrong with an intercooler+pipes, these alone are £200+ if you were to buy them separately so yeah i think its a good way of getting the kit together. the weak link is going to be the turbo and manifold but surely its worth running them until they go and just replace them with better units, atleast youve got everything else you need

you ever been on any of the yank lude sites? theres loads on there that use these ebay kits, like you said its all bottom of the line kit but i think if your sensible and dont expect too much from them you'll get your moneys worth
