i would rather not sell the bearing without the box as if others have parts then im stuck with half a box, might be a good idea to have the box anyway just incase its not the bearing, i would have thought if bearing is shot it would be a problem in all gears. what other problems do you have. clutch brearings usually go very sudenly over a period of around 2-3 days, the clutch pedal will be stiff or difficult to press. the whining could be an early sign of this. if it collapses it will damage the clutch. if it is stiff or grabby (like no feel in the clutch - disengages in a very short distance this could be the bearing but it could also be a number of other things, does the wining continue in other gears too? if you listen carefully while accelerating through the gears does it (a) rise with the increase in rpm then when you change gear whinning falls, or (b) continue rising to an ever increasing whine as you go up through the gears. the answer to this would indicate what part of your transmition is effected.

Gearbox box is absolutely fine just the bearing is whining when clutch is not engaged. Take is usually ok its just when you are stationary and to take off is a bit rough unless you give it good gas say 2000 rpm then it takes off OK everything else seems fine.
