Yep, i have a manual vtec 5th gen, h22a5.

I come from mainland Europe so mine is left hand drive, and I would therefore need a passenger's side inner joint.
Or on RHD ludes, the driver's inner joint.
It's the right side inner joint anyway you put it.. And yes, you're correct about the female axle end, I pasted that axle just as a quick example.

So.. the big question, can I use this 4th gen inner joint on my 5th gen?

Also, when/if I take apart my current axle inner joint, will I be able to put it back together again simply / without any complicated tools? I'm inclined to take it apart to confirm my suspicions before I order replacement parts.

ive got both inner cv joints and bearings if you can use 4th gen ones on 5th gen which im 99% sure you can - the splines into the gearbox casing will be the same and same for the bearings.
the inner cv joints are made up of the following:-

cv cup - with male or female connection and 3 channels for the bearings to fit into
3 small inner bearings that slide up and down the in the cv cup- my experience is these are normally the parts that fail
spider - this is a 3 prong bearing holder thingy that slide/knock on/off the end of the driveshaft

sometimes taking them all apart, cleaning and regreasing may be enough as a temporary measure

Looks like we found the culprit. It was indeed the inner joint on the right side, one of the bearings' housing cracked and let all the rollers to spill out of the bearing race, so the bearing itself had a lot of play.

Tommorow I will make some measurements of the axle splines and such, and I will ask you @vanzep kindly if you could measure your 4th gen joint ends. So we can see if it's doable, to put 4th gen joints on 5th gen..

It'll fit in the gearbox, no worries there. I run a 5th gen gearbox in my 4th gen. The only issue I can see is the fit of the cv joint bearings on the drvieshaft itself, it very unlikely that it will not fit. Actually if the spider was a different number of splines/diameter, you could just use the 4th gen spider anyway.

I should say that I bought that 4th gen CV joint off ebay and it seems to be doing its job well. Thanks for all the advice guys, problem solved.
