Wheel caps -17" rims.

Post by eddie_squidd » Fri Jun 29, 2018 2:02 pm

This is what three of my wheels look like.

Wretched, isn't it?

I blame those jet washers that hand car washes use. Three of my wheel caps have lost all of their silver covering and are down to the plastic. The fourth one is only OK because it was the first one to start going and I bought a replacement from Honda when they were still available. Sadly they're not available any more.

It's difficult to get these because generally either people don't want to sell them separate to the wheels they come from (which is understandable) or they have them but they are already in the process of peeling.

First question: by some miracle does anyone have any of these caps in good condition they want to sell? They must fit the 17" rims and I'll happily take between 1 and 4 of them.

Second question. Eventually I'll get these wheels refurbed because they are kerbed and also starting to bubble in a few places. If anyone has had these type of wheels refurbed before, did they manage to have the caps done at the same time? Are the refurbable? I could try and spray them on their own but they'd never match the wheels.

Hmmm... there's a guy on eBay who has three. Not clear which size wheels though. Anyone know if the caps for 16" and 17" wheels are the same size?

ive got some centre caps here for 16" wheels so could check the part number/dimensions if you like :)

when i refurbed my 16" 4 stud ones i used standard upol wheel silver - it was a good match colour wise ;)

Thanks for the info vanzep. If you can check the serial number and dimensions that would be awesome, ta!

Part number on mine is 08W16-S30-DM00-03 so if it's the same as that it's all good!

centre cap part number for 16" wheels is 08W16-S30-DM00-03 (made in ITALY) so exact same as you have there
i also have a set of caps from 17" wheels but they show part number 08W16-S30-B000-03 (not stamped made in Italy)
probably different part numbers for different manufacturers.

but dont worry about the part numbers - both sets are exactly the same dimensions :)

Hmmm.... well my wheel caps have arrived. They aren't in great nick which I sort of knew but they were very cheap.

Main problem is that even though the caps are the right part number, the badges in the centre are different, which I hadn't noticed, with a larger H with no line around it. I hadn't thought of that!

I could try and get the badges off and swap them for the others but in the end I think it will be easier to respray my existing caps as they are basically in good condition apart from the lack of paint.

I'll try the Upol paint as suggested. I've not really done any spraying before. Any suggestions as to whether I'll need to prime the caps first or do I just go for it?

Yeah, you'll want to give them a damn good clean and will need to use a plastic primer I'd think.
